I am not a great fan of movies, especially of the kind of stuff churned out by the Hindi film industry. Out of solidarity with the average defenceless citizen- brutalised, violated and dehumanised by a political elite on a daily basis- I went to see this Shah Rukh Khan movie, simply to make a political statement. I made that statement by going to the cinema with my wife and kid, shelled out my hard earned money for 3 tickets. I had never given a thought previously that buying a ticket at the movies would translate into a hard core political activity. After about 2 hours and 50 minutes of endurance ( I felt everyone of those excruciating minutes go by, waiting for this absolute silliness to finish. The only thing which prevented me from running out was the fact that I had nowhere else to go. Couldn't get my car out of a filled up parking lot), I find only enough strength to say this. SHIV SENA... RAPE ME. MNS....RAPE ME.

Being a doc, let me clarify one thing. There are no "brutal rapes" and "gentle rapes". There are simply no types. Rape is rape. With the possible exception of homicide, it is the most brutal, violating and dehumanising experience for the victim. There is no difference to the victim, if it is done by the maker(s) of an awful movie or by a sectarian politician. In a democracy all are equal. All rapes too, are equal.

Now I am the one who needs an antidepressant.

Hi Hannah,

Shooting for the film started in February 2008, and was released on Nov3, 2009 with its world premiere in London. James Cameron went an awesome step further on the usual motion-capture technology for Avatar, making a brand new camera that he named e-motion capture (If you have watched Avatar by now, you would have seen the difference).

Keep watching great movies!:)

60 Crores sounds little too much, the reports I read says its 15-18 crores, but yet to be finalized. Whateva...the film has already grossed about 30 crores and is yet to be released in Telugu n Hindi. Sure the produces made good deal of money.

Dear Prachi,

You are a gifted writer as well :)

I could feel the pathos that is at the very core of the movie through your words. The movie undoubtedly handles a very complex issue. I love the twist of a son asking for his mother's right to death...the one who gave the gift of life to him!

Moreover, I am extremely happy that lately Marathi movies are handling amazing storylines...the thrash that Bollywood regularly churns out pales in comparison!

Lastly, I highly recommend the Spanish Movie, 'The Sea Inside' to you. It shows on UTV World movies as well...the movie traces the real-life struggle of a resilient Spaniard for his right to live/die with dignity...

P.S. I guess Sukhaant essentially means a 'Happy Ending'?
